We love making this list every year, but with the 2023 Hollywood strikes (both WGA and SAG-AFTRA) you may notice some film repeats from last year as slates got shifted around due to production shutdown. Knowing that, 2024 is shaping up to be the year of remakes (aka new movie adaptations) and sequels (or in some cases, prequels). Many of which feel completely unnecessary. Enter High Voltage. To help you navigate the waters, let’s dive into the 2024 film releases you should get excited about in order of release date.
Note: All release dates are subject to change by the studios at any moment.
Mean Girls
Reason to Watch: It’s a musical! More specifically an adaptation of the stage musical! We love a musical.
Release Date: January 12, 2024 only in theaters
Argylle
Reason to Watch: Anything Matthew Vaughn touches (as Director, Writer or Producer), we’re in.
Release Date: February 2, 2024 only in theaters
Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire
Reason To Watch: As long as a Reitman is involved, we’re down for anything Ghostbusters. Besides, Paul Rudd is the perfect addition to the Ghostbusters team.
Release Date: March 29, 2024 only in theaters
Challengers
Synopsis: Tashi, a tennis player turned coach, has transformed her husband from a mediocre player into a world-famous grand slam champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she makes him play a challenger event — close to the lowest level of tournament on the pro tour. Tensions soon run high when he finds himself standing across the net from the once-promising, now burnt-out Patrick, his former best friend and Tashi’s former boyfriend.
Reason To Watch: Shortly after the SAG-AFTRA strike began, Challengers was supposed to host it’s world premiere at Venice Film Festival but they instead postponed release until 2024. Being union strong, this move immediately intrigued us.
Release Date: April 26, 2024 only in theaters
The Fall Guy
Synopsis: After leaving the business one year earlier, battle-scarred stuntman Colt Seavers springs back into action when the star of a big studio movie suddenly disappears. As the mystery surrounding the missing actor deepens, Colt soon finds himself ensnared in a sinister plot that pushes him to the edge of a fall more dangerous than any stunt.
Reason To Watch: Judging by the trailer alone, it appears we’re getting a taste of the Emily Blunt signature sass we fell in love with during The Devil Wears Prada. Plus Hannah Waddingham’s in it, enough said.
Release Date: May 3, 2024 only in theaters
IF
Synopsis: After discovering she can see everyone’s imaginary friends, a girl embarks on a magical adventure to reconnect forgotten IFs with their kids.
Reason To Watch: With so many sequels, remakes, continuations and prequels this year, an original concept is a very welcomed addition.
Release Date: May 17, 2024 only in theaters
Ballerina
Reason To Watch: After John Wick: Chapter 4 blew us away with the most incredible stunt performances, we cannot wait to see the future of this franchise.
Release Date: June 7, 2024 only in theaters
Deadpool 3
Reason To Watch: Deadpool officially enters the MCU in this film, and frankly the MCU could use all the help it can get these days.
Release Date: July 26, 2024 only in theaters
Beetlejuice 2
Reason To Watch: Do we really need one? This is the sequel we’ve been dreaming of!

The Amateur
Synopsis: Follows a CIA cryptographer, who manages to blackmail his agency into training him to let him go after a group of terrorist who killed his wife in London.
Reason to Watch: Rachel Brosnahan, Rami Malek and Caitríona Balfe, oh my!
Release Date: November 8, 2024 only in theaters
Wicked: Part One
Synopsis: In an alternate look at the land of Oz, the true heroine is wrongfully cast as the “wicked” witch and actually turns out to be a freedom fighter who battles against the wizard for her homeland.
Reason to Watch: We may be concerned that this film has been split in two parts, but it won’t stop us from watching the musical splendor.
Release Date: November 27, 2024 only in theaters
The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim
Synopsis: The untold story behind Helm’s Deep, hundreds of years before the fateful war, telling the life and bloodsoaked times of its founder, Helm Hammerhand, the King of Rohan.
Reason to Watch: It’s a Lord of the Rings anime, do we need to say anything else?
Release Date: December 13, 2024 only in theaters
