Santa Barbara International Film Festival Virtuoso Awards | Arlington Theatre | January 18, 2020 |
The SBIFF Virtuosos Award is an honor created to recognize a select group of talent whose noteworthy performances in film have elevated them into the national cinematic dialogue. This year’s recipients were: Aldis Hodge (Clemency), Awkwafina (The Farewell), Beanie Feldstein (Booksmart), Cynthia Erivo (Harriet), Florence Pugh (Midsommar), George McKay (1917), Taron Egerton (Rocketman), and Taylor Russell (Waves).
The awards themselves feature an in-depth look and discussion with each honoree followed by a group interview and award presentation. It was honestly the most entertaining and captivating ceremony we’ve ever attended, in large part thanks to this year’s moderator Dave Karger who managed to get Hodge, Erivo and Egerton to each sing a snippet of their go-to karaoke songs. Bonus: When it was time to present the awards Karger welcomed the legendary actor Christopher Lloyd to the stage to do the honors.
