Hotter than July.
Yes, that is the title of legend Stevie Wonder’s iconic 19th studio album but it is also an accurate descriptor for the second leg of rock and roll powerhouse Dorothy’s Freedom Tour.
When Dorothy Martin appeared on the Los Angeles music scene in 2014, she seemingly did so out of nowhere but that voice definitely comes from somewhere. It’s the powerful fusion of raw rock, deep soul, and brutal blues set on lyrical fire and when Dorothy (the band) made their presence known, they floored fans and critics, alike, because it had been a minute since a rock band emerged that punched as hard and strong as Dorothy did.
After signing with Roc Nation, their tongue-in-cheek titled debut album, ROCKISDEAD, arrived in 2016 boasting sledgehammer songs like “Raise Hell,” “Wicked Ones” and “After Midnight” and it was damned good.
In October of 2017 she played an intimate gig at the Viper Room on the Sunset Strip which served as a showcase for where Dorothy was musically heading.
Here we now are in 2018 with their Linda Perry-produced sophomore album, 28 Days In The Valley, showing Martin quite capable of balancing on the edges of fierce and fragile as well as proving that Dorothy (the woman and the band) are far from a fluke possessing the artistic chops necessary to dig deeper. See the album’s lead single, “Flawless,” as it sits in the top 10 of Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart for further.
So on July 12th Dorothy and bandmates Eli Wulfmeier (guitar), Owen Barry (guitar), Eliot Lorango (bass), and Jason Ganberg (drums) will carry on carrying their rock torches to the masses with a live show that needs to seen. Running through August, Dorothy’s Freedom Tour (with guests Charming Liars) is bringing their special brand of heat to venues and festival stages across the U.S. during the hottest months of the year.
We encourage you to get some Freedom in your life.
