“Hello” By Smoke Season

The Who: Smoke Season (Los Angeles, CA)

The What: There’s a lot to dig about Gabrielle Wortman and Jason Rosen who make up the electro-soulful duo Smoke Season, not the least of which are their musical stylistic choices when covering time-tested songs with very distinct identities. Last year they tackled The Talking Heads’ punchy “Psycho Killer” and imbued it with so much shadowed sensuality that it was practically a new song. This time Lionel Ritchie’s “Hello” gets updated with an edge of womanly longing that kind of brings the song’s love story full circle. Directed by Megan Duffy, the video feels almost voyeuristic as it captures Wortman shifting though different stages of her femininity. So keep doing you, Smoke Season, even when you’re doing other artists. We know: phrasing.

The Where: You can find and keep up with Smoke Season via their official website, their Facebook page and at @SmokeSeasonBand on Twitter.
