It seems like only yesterday that we stood outside the venerable Los Angeles venue, Hotel Cafe, leaning against a wall and having a lovely conversation with James Bay. Having just finished wowing the sold out room into awed silence with little more than his voice and a guitar, it was obvious that his days of occupying intimate performances spaces were numbered. Since then, Bay has released his debut full length album, Chaos and the Calm, won the Critics’ Choice Award at the BRIT Awards, toured with and opened for the Rolling Stones, Hozier and Taylor Swift and filled arenas across Europe. And so it has gone with conquering America: from 165 people at Hotel Cafe to a sold out Hollywood Palladium of 4,000. From playing the acoustic singer/songwriter/troubadour to elevating his words and sounds with a complete band into a full blown rock show where the room was anything but silent.
