“Firelight” By Caligula’s Horse

The Who: Caligula’s Horse (Brisbane, Australia)

The What: We don’t know what’s going on down under, but Australia has had an abundance of quality musical output in 2015. Cue the unusual, yet impressive, turn of “Firelight” from Brisbane’s heavy and progressive rock outfit, Caligula’s Horse. The video: picturesque, soothing and honest. The song: from their forthcoming third album, Bloom (set for release on 10/16 in AU/EU/UK and on 10/30 in the US), and an ode to the loss of a friend is more grand uplift than metallic and weighty introspection yet it loses none of the band’s musical dynamism or power. It’s a shift in the color of their formidable sound that lead vocalist Jim Grey states is full of “…vibrancy and energy, but one that breathes in and out with a natural ebb and flow.”

The Where: The Australian leg of their tour begins this week with Europe to follow, so keep up with Caligula’s Horse on Facebook, via their official website or at @CaligulasHorse on Twitter.
