The Who: Mothxr (Brooklyn, NY)
The What: Yes, it’s pronounced “Mother.” But crazy spelling aside, since their inception in the Summer of 2014, the Brooklyn bedroom four-piece Mothxr (Jimmy Giannopoulos, Simon Oscroft, Darren Will and fronted by Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgely) has dished out moody and broody electronic soul, baby-making music. Live shows have been sparse, (mostly contained to New York City) and recorded tunes to latch onto are few but of quality; so much so, that the band continues to be labeled as “highly anticipated.” So dig into “Centerfold” with its endless video projections and model, Hailey Clauson, the aimless center of our attention. NYC bleak at its best. Now if only these guys would hit the road and tour…
