The Who: Nate Ruess
The What: “A lot of times songs come to me in the middle of the night while I’m sleeping, or while I’m driving. This one showed up in the shower.” revealed fun. frontman, Nate Ruess. If nothing else, that warrants more points than usual for personal hygiene. Taking a cue from what’s going on inside (as well as fun.’s extended hiatus), “Nothing Without Love” is the first single from Ruess’ upcoming solo record due out next Summer consisting of songs fueled more by falling in love than by ramen. Directed by Anthony Mandler, Ruess seems like a man starkly alone and yet far from it. Featuring Josh Klinghoffer (Red Hot Chili Peppers) on guitar and Lykke Li on backing vocals, the single boasts the familiar soft-loud-soft and anthemic musical swells that we’ve become accustomed to from the fun. collective, but here the terrain is all Ruess. Ain’t love grand?
