Castle – Season 6

Castle | Season 6 (DVD) | Rating: 8.5/11

Released: September 16, 2014

Season 6 of Castle marks the beginning of a new journey for Katherine Beckett (Stana Katic) and Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion). After the season 5 finale where Castle asks Beckett to marry him, we return almost exactly after that special moment. It wouldn’t be true to Castle if there weren’t complications for the couple. With Beckett starting her new job in Washington D.C. with the FBI and Castle hanging out at home, the season starts with the lovely couple, sadly, apart from each other. However, the distance doesn’t last for very long and – thankfully – our couple is reunited once again.

What ensues for the rest of the season is a (temporarily) jobless Beckett, wedding planning and poor Beckett having to deal with Castle wanting to get married on the moon or a roller coaster. In addition to the pending nuptial planning, we finally see a crack in that perfect father/daughter relationship between Castle and Alexis (Molly Quinn) when he disapproves of the hippy, fruitarian boy named Pi that Alexis brought back from her trip. Why bring home a simple souvenir when you can bring home a person? In addition, there’s the usual bromance between Detectives Javier Esposito (Jon Huertas) and Kevin Ryan (Seamus Dever), some really entertaining murders, the return of the ever elusive Triple Killer (aka 3XK) and, finally, Beckett getting to put away the man who murdered her mother. Small victories make up the season, but in the latter’s case, a large one, as well . No spoilers for the finale, but it’s another “Did they have to do that?” kind of moment.

Some fun stuff on the DVD include special features in the form of deleted/extended scenes, a gag reel, a particularly entertaining episode commentary with Ryan and Esposito, more commentary, a featurette with Stana Katic, and some favorite clips/scenes from the cast, crew, and fans.

Season 6 of Castle on DVD is just plain fun.
