Miss Derringer – Winter Hill

Miss Derringer
Winter Hill
Triple X Records

Miss Derringer’s third album plays like the soundtrack to a Western-themed burlesque directed by John Waters. Fashionably kitsch and playfully badass, Winter Hill is likely the year’s most infectious release and the best thing to come out on Triple X Records since Jane’s Addiction’s debut. The group’s sound is, at times, a chic brand of rockabilly and, at times, a twangy take on power pop. “Bang Bang” and “All the Pretty Things” could underscore the world’s hippest hoedown and the blood-flavored bubblegum balladry of “Don’t Leave Me Now” and “Heartbreaks & Razorblades” would be ideal for serenading the sweethearts of the city’s psychiatric ward. – Izzy Cihak
