Llik Your Idols

Pick up a copy of Angelique Bosio’s Llik Your Idols and find out how films about castration-happy cops and self-disembowelment came to inspire modern day fashion photography. Bosio’s documentary is a brief but beautiful introduction to the Cinema of Transgression, the cinematic counterpart of No Wave. As Sonic Youth and Swans were recording “Ghost Bitch” and “Money is Flesh” Richard Kern and Nick Zedd were shooting “King of Sex” and “Go To Hell.” Kern and Zedd forced viewers to find the morbid humour and the absurd violence of human sexuality years before such sexuality was presented as a chic and shallow satire upon the pages of Interview and Harper’s Bazaar. – Izzy Cihak
