Cryptacize – Mythomania

Cryptacize’s sophomore effort sounds along the lines of Belle & Sebastian scoring a Spaghetti Western. Mythomania pits the ineffably kitschy against the ineffably hip in a way that is as fetching as it is avant-garde. A traditional brand of twee is layered with Spector-esque harmonies and squealing guitars in a fashionably brilliant manner. “Tail & Mane” is like the showdown between a girl group and a mariachi band, “Blue Tears” evokes images of cheerfully caroling hipsters, and “What You Can’t See Is” and “Gotta Get Into That Feeling” sound like the lullabies that Lou Reed would’ve listened to as a child. – Izzy Cihak
